The risks are concentrated in a short, knowable list — Finnish clinical reviews have published essentially the same contraindication table for decades. That stability is the good news: for a sober, hydrated adult without cardiovascular disease, a conventional sauna session is a low-risk activity, and the reviews say so plainly (Hannuksela & Ellahham, 2001). Medication Interactions Worth Mentioning

One paragraph, because this is the item people forget to disclose. The interactions are inferred from pharmacology rather than measured in sauna trials, and the inference is straightforward: diuretics lower blood volume, making the post-heat dip deeper; beta blockers blunt the heart-rate response that normally signals overheating; vasodilators and nitrates add to the vessel-dilation that already drives the dip; and anticholinergic drugs reduce sweating, the body's main cooling system. None of this means a medication rules out the sauna; it means the prescribing clinician should know the plan.
