The European Food Safety Authority's comprehensive 2015 assessment concluded that up to 400 mg of caffeine per day — roughly 200 mg per single dose — poses no safety concern for healthy adults (EFSA, 2015). The US Food and Drug Administration publishes the same 400 mg figure. Two carve-outs matter: pregnancy, where 200 mg per day is the standard guidance (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), and children, for whom the advice is effectively "little to none."
